On Wednesday, 6 November, Pope Francis addressed a telegram to the President of the Republic of Serbia, His Excellency Aleksandar Vučić, expressing his “deepest sympathies” and “spiritual closeness” to the citizens of Serbia following the incident at the Novi Sad railway station on Friday, 1 November, in which cement roofing in the station suddenly collapsed, killing 14 people and severely injuring an additional three. In his message, the Holy Father assured the president of his prayers “especially for those who have died, their grieving families and the injured. Upon all affected”, he concluded, “I invoke almighty God’s blessings of healing, consolation and peace”.
