Pope Francis presides at an Ordinary Consistory

On Monday morning, 1 July, in the Consistory Hall of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father presided at the celebration of the Hour of Terce and the Ordinary Public Consistory for the Canonization of Blesseds:

—  Fr Manuel Ruiz López, ofm , and his seven companions, and the three brothers Francis, Abdul-Mooti and Raphael Massabki, lay faithful, martyrs;

—  Giuseppe (Joseph) Allamano, priest, founder of the Institute of the Consolata Missionaries and of the Consolata Missionary Sisters;

—  Marie-Léonie Paradis (in the world: Virginie Alodie), foundress of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family;

—  Elena Guerra, foundress of the Congregation of the Oblates of the Holy Spirit (also known as the Sisters of Saint Zita);

—  Carlo Acutis, lay faithful.

During the Consistory, the Holy Father authorized that Blessed Manuel Ruiz López and his seven companions, Francis, Abdul-Mooti and Raphael Massabki, Giuseppe Allamano, Marie-Léonie Paradis and Elena Guerra be inscribed in the Book of Saints and canonized on Sunday, 20 October 2024. Blessed Carlo Acutis will be inscribed in the Book of Saints at a later date yet to be determined.

The Optatio of three Cardinals from the Order of Deacons to the Order of Presbyters, followed:

— at the request of Cardinal James Michael Harvey, the Deaconry of San Pio v a Villa Carpegna has been elevated pro hac vice to Presbyteral title;

— at the request of Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, the Deaconry of San Anselmo all’Aventino has been elevated pro hac vice to Presbyteral Title;

— at the request of Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, the Deaconry of Sant’Agnese in Agone has been elevated pro hac vice to Presbyteral Title.
