Venice Music Biennale seeking young composers

The 2024 Venice Music Biennale is reaching out to young composers and performers from around the world. Artistic Director Lucia Ronchetti explained that this year she did not want to be limited to proposing internationally recognized great masters and has launched a campaign to select five composers and six performers under 30 years to grapple with the festival’s theme, Absolute Music. She hopes to include young people from countries that do not benefit from easy and immediate access to information and announcements. Successful candidates will participate in “a programme of residency, research and production of new creations and performances” and will work with international renowned musicians and experts who will serve as mentors. Their work will premiere as part of the 68th International Festival of Contemporary Music of La Biennale di Venezia to be held from September 26th to October 10th 2024.
