Bishop Domenico Pompili announced on Saturday, 25 November, that Pope Francis will visit the Italian city of Verona on 18 May 2024, on the occasion of the 14th Festival of the Social Doctrine of the Church, as well as the 1,650th anniversary of the death of Saint Zeno of Verona, a local, fourth-century bishop and the city’s patron saint. According to the Bishop of Verona, the Pope will take part in the “Peace Arena 2024,” which will bring together Church and civil leaders to address topics such as disarmament and migration. Pope Francis will then visit and share a meal with the inmates at Montorio prison. His final event of the day will be to preside over Holy Mass at the Bentegodi Stadium. The announcement was made at a press conference held during the 13th Festival of Social Doctrine.
