With Maria and Edna

On Friday morning, 4 August, before leaving the Apostolic Nunciature in Lisbon for his public events, Pope Francis had two short but very meaningful encounters. The first was with a 106-year-old woman, Maria da Conceição Brito Mendonça, who was born on the day of the apparitions of Fatima, on 13 May 1917. The second was with the young Edna Pina Lopes Rodrigues, who suffers from a serious illness and to whom Pope Francis had sent a message of affection and prayer last June.
