The Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelisation Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle spoke to Vatican Media about his trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 4 to 11 June where he served as the Pope’s Special Envoy to the country’s National Eucharistic Congress. With the theme, “The Eucharist and the Family”, the Eucharistic Congress aimed to deepen the faith of Congolese Christians. On Monday, 12 June, the Cardinal met with refugees who have fled from clashes between the army and militants. The following day, at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, he appealed for peace and reconciliation to the Church of Goma. Speaking on behalf of millions of migrants and refugees worldwide, Cardinal Tagle urged those in positions of authority to prioritize peace, and he underscored the urgency of addressing ongoing violence and establishing stability for the Congolese people.
