On Saturday morning, 24 June, the Holy Father received in audience H.E. Mr Paul Gibbard, new Ambassador of Canada, for the presentation of the Letters by which he is accredited to the Holy See.

Mr Paul Gibbard was born in Nacaome, Honduras, on 15 August 1960. He is married with children. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Calgary (1983) and a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, UK (1985). In 1992 he joined External Affairs and International Trade Canada. He has held assignments on policy planning, the Caribbean, Mexico, US cross-border issues, Indigenous affairs, the Arctic and Venezuela. He has worked in Costa Rica and Cuba and in an exchange program with Mexico’s Foreign Ministry. He has been in charge of political, economic, and public affairs and advocacy programmes at the Embassies in Italy, Albania, Malta and San Marino; Ambassador to Venezuela and Iraq and head of Mission to Nigeria. He was Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Canada to the Holy See from 2021 to 2023.
