Three million children in Haiti in dire need of humanitarian support

Nearly 3 million children — the highest number on record — need humanitarian support in Haiti, where they face staggering levels of violence that have exacerbated hunger and malnutrition in a country already mired in poverty and a resurgence of cholera. In a press release published 15 June, unicef reports that children in Haiti are paying the price of armed groups’ fight for territory and control, mainly in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and increasingly in the neighbouring Artibonite region. Sexual violence, kidnappings for ransom and attacks on schools have resulted in the displacement of tens of thousands.
