A profound desire for peace permeates the Korean people in light of the 70th anniversary of the end of the war that swept the peninsula from 1950 to 1953. A peace which, with the highs and lows of the last decades, seems more distant today, and which therefore, needs to be invoked, sought and pursued with greater material commitment and with all the spiritual resources possible. The war that claimed millions of human lives has yet to officially end, and “this unfinished conflict is still the main cause of the current threat to peace”, wrote the Korean Bishops, announcing a special Day of Prayer for Reconciliation and National Unity to be observed on 25 June (date of the start of the war).
