Pope Francis has accepted Fr Juan Antonio Guerrero Alves’ resignation “for personal reasons”, after three years as Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy. The resignation took effect on Thursday, 1 December. A Holy See Press Office statement said the Pope thanked Fr Guerrero warmly “for the dedication shown in his service to the Holy See” and for managing “to put the economy in order”. It was hard and demanding work, the statement continued, “that bore much fruit. The Holy Father assures him of his prayers”. Fr Guerrero is succeeded by economist Mr Maximino Caballero Ledo, the current Secretary of the Secretariat.
