On Monday, 28 November, the ambassadors and diplomats accredited to the Holy See gathered in the Vatican’s Old Synod Hall, to study the Apostolic Constitution Praedicate Evangelium on the Roman Curia and its service to the Church in the world. Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, introduced the event, which was the first in a series that will continue throughout 2023. In his opening remarks, the Archbishop reminded participants that one of the objectives of the meeting was to give accredited diplomats the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the “nature, mission and activities of the Apostolic See”, while also opening the possibility for “broader forms of collaboration with the embassies” and “offering elements that could inspire initiatives in various fields”, including religion, culture, art and the promotion of human dignity. Among the speakers were Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, former Rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University; Professor Vincenzo Buonomo, Rector of the Pontifical Lateran University; and Fr Roberto Regoli, professor in the Church History Department at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
