The Asti city council conferred upon Pope Francis the title of honorary citizen for his “strong commitment to peace in the world and the daily messages of solidarity and fraternity against every form of discrimination”. The other reason was for the Pope’s “strong bond with the territory of Asti and Piedmont”, demonstrated by the Holy Father’s continued contact with his family and the institutions of Asti. The city council’s decision was unanimous, and on Sunday morning, 20 November, Asti’s mayor, Maurizio Rasero, accompanied by council members, personally presented Pope Francis with the official document.
