After his catechesis at the General Audience on Wednesday, 16 November, Pope Francis renewed his appeal for peace in Ukraine, which in recent days saw an increase in missile strikes launched by Russia. The following is a translation of the Pope’s words.
I have learned with sorrow and concern the news of a new and even more severe missile attack on Ukraine, which has caused deaths and damage to much civilian infrastructure. Let us pray that the Lord will convert the hearts of those who still insist on war, and make the desire for peace prevail for martyred Ukraine, to avoid any escalation and open the way to a cease-fire and dialogue.
Earlier the Holy Father had reflected on the importance of interpreting the movements of our heart, including occasional experiences of “desolation” or interior unrest and dissatisfaction.
