On Monday, 1 August, the Holy Father received in audience, in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the President of the Republic of Fiji, H.E. Mr Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, who subsequently met with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.
During the cordial discussions in the Secretariat of State, the parties focused on various themes of a regional nature, particularly the urgent issue of climate change, the humanitarian dimension and the need for greater commitment to protecting the common home.
The good relations existing between the Holy See and Fiji, and the contribution of the Catholic Church to the life and development of the country were also evoked.
