With tears streaming down her face, Si Pih Ko marked one of several poignant moments in the first leg of Pope Francis’ “penitential pilgrimage” to Canada. The Indigenous woman in her regalia stood before Pope Francis and sang an emotional rendition of “O Canada” in Cree following his public apology for the role that many Catholic institutions played in the residential school system, which, Si Pih Ko later told CTV News, had deeply affected her family.
