On Sunday, 24 July, the Holy Father will depart for his Apostolic Visit to Canada, a journey he has described as a “penitential pilgrimage”, in order to walk with indigenous peoples along the path of reconciliation and healing. He will leave from Rome’s Fiumicino Airport at 9:00 am, and land at Edmonton International Airport at 11:20 am local time. On Monday morning, 25 July, Pope Francis will meet with members of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Maskwacis and then with indigenous peoples and members of the Parish community of Sacred Heart. The following morning, he will celebrate Mass at Edmonton’s “Commonwealth Stadium” and participate in a pilgrimage and the Liturgy of the Word at Lac Ste. Anne. On Wednesday morning, 27 July, Pope Francis will travel by airplane to Québec, where he will meet with the Governor General, with the Prime Minister, and then with civil authorities, Representatives of Indigenous Peoples and Members of the Diplomatic Corps.

On Thursday morning, the Holy Father will celebrate Holy Mass at the National Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupré. In the early evening, he will celebrate Vespers with bishops, priests, deacons, consecrated persons, seminarians and pastoral workers in the Cathedral of Notre Dame. On Friday, the last day of his Apostolic Visit, Pope Francis will meet with members of the Society of Jesus and with a delegation of Indigenous peoples, before travelling by airplane to Iqaluit. There, he will participate in a private meeting with students of the former residential schools, followed by a meeting with young people and elders. After a farewell ceremony at Iqaluit Airport, Pope Francis will depart for Rome at 6:45 pm, arriving at Fiumicino Airport at 7:50 am local time.
