The beatification of Armida Barelli

On April 30, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, representing Pope Francis, presided in the cathedral of Milan at the rite of beatification of the Venerable Armida Barelli (1882-1952), at the conclusion of a process that began in 1970.

Armida Barelli, a militant Catholic laywoman, was co-founder with Father Agostino Gemelli of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart; she gave life to the secular Institute of the Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ and above all to the Gioventù Femminile Cattolica Italiana [Italian Catholic Women’s Youth].
