November 25. Day against Violence against Women and Feast of the Catherinettes

November 25 is the World Day against Violence against Women. It was chosen by the UN in 1999 in memory of the sacrifice of the sisters Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal, killed by agents of dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.

The 25^th is also the feast day of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, virgin and martyr, who refused to marry the governor who condemned her to death. Saint Catherine is considered the patroness of seamstresses' apprentices, who take her name “Chaterinettes”.
