In a telegram sent to Archbishop Mitja Leskovar, Apostolic Nuncio in Iraq, on Tuesday evening, 20 July, by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, Pope Francis sends condolences for those who died in the explosion at the Al-Wuhailat Market in Baghdad and renews his appeal for reconciliation in Iraq. It was reported that women and children were believed to be among those killed in the blast, which also injured dozens of people. The following is the English text of the telegram.
His Holiness Pope Francis was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life in the explosion at the Al-Wuhailat Market in Baghdad and he sends condolences to the families and friends of those who have died.
