Rosanna Virgili, «Il Padre»
[The Father], San Paolo

In the Jubilee Year, which also marks the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, author Rosanna Virgili has published The Father. We learn from our friend Monsignor Massimiliano Palinuro, the Bishop of Istanbul, that grand celebrations are currently underway in Nicaea (now İznik, 130 km from the capital), also in anticipation of the arrival of Pope Leo XIV. We know the biblical scholar Virgili and have read much of her work, so we are not surprised that this new book seeks to re-understand the God in whom Catholics believe through the word “Father”, in order to access new visions of God's fatherhood. The novel opens with a rereading of biblical texts in light of contemporary knowledge and lived experience.

“I believe in one God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible”. So begins the Creed, the prayer with which we Christians profess our faith today just as we did 1,700 years ago. It is a faith that contemplates the ineffable mystery of the Trinity, into which both our lives and the life of the universe are woven, so savouring its infinite beauty.
