Pope Francis attends G7 Summit

Pope Francis is participating in the G7 Summit that is currently underway in Apulia, Italy. He travelled there by helicopter from the Vatican on Friday morning, 14 June. Arriving at the Borgo Egnazia sports field in the afternoon, he was welcomed by Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.

In addition to delivering a speech on artificial intelligence, the Pope is holding bilateral meetings with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; the Presidents of Ukraine, France, Kenya, the United States, Brazil, Turkiyë and Algeria; and the Prime Ministers of Canada and India.

The Group of Seven industrialized nations, under the presidency of Italy, runs from 13 to 15 June and foresees the participation of the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. The Presidents of the European Council and Commission and leaders of a number of other States and International Organizations are also taking part in the work.

This is the first time a Pope participates in the G7 Summit.
