Attack on Pentecostal church

Pope’s closeness and compassion

20 January 2023

Pope Francis communicated his sadness following the deadly attack on a Pentecostal church in Kasindi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Sunday, 15 January. In a telegram signed by Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and addressed to Rev. André Bokundoa-Bo-Likabe, President of the Church of Christ in the Congo, the Pope “expresses his compassion and his closeness to all the families hard hit by this tragedy. In prayer”, the message reads, “the Holy Father entrusts the deceased and the injured to God’s mercy. He implores Christ, Lord of life, that the people afflicted may find consolation and trust, invoking upon them the gift of peace”.
