Let us stop this ‘world war’

“Today we are living through a world war. Let us stop please!”, Pope Francis urged at the General Audience on Wednesday morning, 7 September. After greeting the elderly, young people, the sick and newlyweds at the end of his catechesis on discernment, he turned his thoughts to Ukraine: “Faced with all the war scenarios of our time, I ask each of you to be builders of peace and to pray so that thoughts and projects of peace and reconciliation may spread throughout the world”, the Pope said. He then entrusted all victims of war to the Virgin Mary, in particular the people of Ukraine.

Recalling the Feast of the Nativity of Mary on 8 September, the Holy Father expressed his closeness to all mothers, in particular to those “who have children who suffer” and “mothers of young detainees: let hope never be lacking”, the Pope encouraged them. “Unfortunately, in prisons there are many people who take their own life, at times also young people. A mother’s love can save them from this danger”, he stressed.
