Pope John Paul I beatification set for 4 September

In a statement on Monday, 11 July, the Holy See Press Office announced that Pope Francis will beatify his predecessor, John Paul I, on Sunday, 4 September, during Mass in Saint Peter’s Square.

Bishop Renato Marangoni will read the Rite of Beatification, together with Cardinal Beniamino Stella, Postulator for the Cause of Canonization, and Dr. Stefania Falasca, Deputy Postulator.

“During the beatification”, the statement explained, “the team of postulators will gift the Holy Father with a reliquary containing the relics of the new Blessed”.
