The serene and smiling face of a young woman stands out on banners, newspapers and television in Lyon. It is the face of Pauline Marie Jaricot (1799-1862), a laywoman from Lyon who was beatified on Sunday, 22 May, in a solemn and moving Eucharistic celebration held at the Expo building of the French city. More than 12,000 pilgrims from all over the world attended the celebration of the woman whom Pope Francis proclaimed “new Patroness of Catholic Missions”, during the Extraordinary Missionary Month of October 2019. “Pauline Jaricot was a woman who loved Jesus Christ, letting him, the Word of God, live, act, love in her and through her.
