Because the Lord is kind and merciful, He gave the Israelites Moses to lead them from a life of slavery in Egypt to the promised land. The people struggled to change from an enslaved heart to a liberated heart capable of love. Paul tells the Corinthians that this story was written as an example for them so that those who think that they are standing secure should take care not to fall. All of us are called to walk the path of the Israelites: to journey from slavery to freedom. It is a call to turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel. Anyone who thinks he or she is exempt from this call should take caution. Anthony Bloom said, “God can save the sinner you are, but not the saint you pretend to be.” In the Gospel, Jesus tried to convey this truth to his listeners, “I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” ...
