The tendency to attack democracy is rather strong. “It is easy enough to do this: democracy is frustrating. If it is functioning, it will rarely lead to immediate gratifications as all actions will have been mediated through forms of compromise. Since it is likely to encompass widely conflicting views, democratic processes are usually highly complicated, demanding nuanced forms of thinking and communicating. It is not made for human instincts, for sure”. It may be rather dangerous to compare the word Synod with Christopher Bollas’ merciless reflection on democracy in his essay, “Meaning and Melancholia: Life in the Age of Bewilderment”.
