October 3: “Nuccia” and “Monachella di San Bruno” beatified

On October 3, at 4:00 p.m. the beatification ceremony of the Venerable Servants of God Gaetana Tolomeo (“Nuccia”) and Maria Antonia Samá, the “Nun of San Bruno” will take place in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Catanzaro.

At the age of two, Gaetana Tolomeo was diagnosed with a malformation of the limbs with progressive paralysis. She could only sit or lay down at home for the rest of her life. Because of her condition, she increasingly entered into her particular calling to follow the suffering Christ.

Maria Antonia Samá lived for over 60 years immobilized in bed. Even as a young girl, a serious arthritic disease forced her to remain in a supine position, with her knees raised. She experienced everything with faith, inviting those who visited her to trust in God.

October 9: Blessed Maria Lorenza Longo

Venerable Maria Lorenza Longo will be beatified on October 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Naples’ Cathedral Church. A Catalan noblewoma, who was left a widow, made a pilgrimage to Loreto, where she was miraculously cured of an illness and decided to enter the Third Order of St Francis (her story is recalled in the article on page 23).
