Pope sends condolences

Once again the shedding of innocent blood in war-torn South Sudan, and once again religious among the victims. Sr Mary Abud and Sr Regina Roba of the St Madeleine Sophie Barat Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were killed on Sunday, 16 August, along with three others, in an ambush on the road between the capital Juba and Nimule, along the Ugandan border. In receiving the news of the “brutal attack” the Pope expressed his deep sadness in a telegram, sent through Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, to Msgr Mark Kadima, adviser at Apostolic Nunciature in South Sudan, and offered his “heartfelt condolences” to their families and religious community in the wave of this “senseless act of violence”.
