of the 26th World Youth Day

Decree
The Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who, on the occasion of
the 26th World Youth Day, will gather in Madrid in the spirit of pilgrimage;
all those, wherever they may be, who pray for the spiritual goals of this
Meeting and for its happy success may obtain the Partial Indulgence.
The Apostolic Penitentiary recently received a request from Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela, Archbishop of Madrid and President of the Spanish Bishops' Conference, that young people may obtain the hoped for fruits of sanctification from the 26th World Youth Day which will be celebrated from 16 to 21 August in the Spanish capital on the theme: “Planted and Built Up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith” (cf. Col. 2:7).
Having submitted these considerations to the Holy Father, complying with the opinion of the Pontiff, by means of this Decree the Apostolic Penitentiary is endowed with special faculties for granting the gift of the Indulgence as follows:
The Plenary Indulgence is granted to the faithful who will devotedly participate at some sacred function or pious exercise taking place in Madrid during the 26th World Youth Day, including its solemn conclusion, so that, having received the sacrament of Reconciliation and being truly repentant, they receive Holy Communion and pray devoutly according to the intentions of His Holiness.
The Partial Indulgence is granted to the faithful, wherever they may be at the time of the above-mentioned meeting, if, at least with a contrite spirit, they will raise their prayers to God the Holy Spirit, so that young people are drawn to charity and given the strength to proclaim the Gospel with their life.
So that the faithful may more easily obtain these heavenly gifts, priests who have been legitimately approved to hear sacramental confessions should welcome them with a ready and generous spirit and suggest public prayers to the faithful for the success of the same “World Youth Day”.
This Decree is valid for this event. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary.
