“My hope is that, more than a celebration of sport, this World Cup can be a celebration of solidarity among nations” because “sport is not only a form of entertainment, but also – and I would say above all – a tool to communicate values which promote the good of the human person and contribute to building a more peaceful and fraternal society”. In Pope Francis' videomessage broadcast on Brazilian TV for the World Cup of Football, which kicked off on Thursday, 12 June, in Brazil. The Pope also tweeted “I wish everyone a wonderful World Cup played in a spirit of true fraternity”. The national teams of Croatia and the host country, Brazil were set to compete in the opening game in Sao Paolo's Arena Corinthians stadium. The final championship match will take place on Sunday, 13 July
