The hand of God in the obscurity of the world

· Benedict XVI concludes the Lenten spiritual exercises in the Vatican ·

The you for having carried with me throughout these eight years the weight of the Petrine Ministry

To believe means the ability “to touch the hand of God”.  Especially in the “silence of the dark night”, when it seems that “the devil means to permanently mar creation” with suffering, evil, corruption, in his attempt to “contradict God” and “render irreconcilable his truth and his beauty”.

With this reflection on Saturday morning, 23 February,  the Pope concluded the Lenten spiritual exercises led by Cardinal Ravasi. In greeting all the participants, the Pope thanked them for having carried with him these past eight years, “with great competence, affection, love and faith, the weight of the Petrine Ministry”.
