· Ecumenical Congress on Orthodox spirituality opens at Bose ·
Almost 50 years, Pavel Evdokimov, the famous philosopher and theologian of emigration published a book in Paris which in a certain sense left a mark on all those in the West who were anxious to know the spirituality of the Orthodox Churches and to understand it better. It was entitled Les âges de la vie spirituelle . Des pères du désert à nos jours . Inspired by this title the Bose Community chose the “Ages of spiritual life” as the theme of its 21st international ecumenical congress on Orthodox spirituality, which is taking place from 4 to 7 September. In a telegram to the organizers and participants in the congress – representatives of the Catholic and Reformed Churches, as well as international scholars – signed by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Secretary of State, Pope Francis conveyed his “cordial greeting” together with his apostolic blessing. Moreover the Holy Father expressed the hope that “the study days may be an intense experience of reflection and communion, encouraging the evangelizing mission and Christian witness”. Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, also communicated sentiments of “fraternal closeness” to the organizers and to those taking part. He stressed the importance of the Congress theme “for the search for and re-establishment of the full communion of all believers in Christ”. Patriarch Bartholomaios of Constantinople reflected in his message on the “crucial” importance of the theme chosen for the Congress.
