· Message of Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk of Kiev-Halyč ·
Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk of Kiev-Halyč, spiritual guide of the Ukranian Greek-Catholic Church (UGCC), sent a letter greeting the Ukranian Catholics of Canada at the Synod taking place until 16 September in Winnipeg. The Synod is being held on the centenary of the first Greek-Catholic Bishop in the country Bl. Nykyta Budka. According to the bishops of the UGCC, Bishop Budka worked with the clergy and laity committed to the Gospel in order to strengthen and reinforce the community of the Ukranian Church abroad. “Our Church in Canada... developed into the first Metropolitan See outside of Ukraine. It has given many bishops, priests, monastics and sisters for our UGCC not just in Canada, but also throughout the world... Your dedication and faithfulness to the divine matters of our Church in Ukraine were especially felt during the 80’s and 90’s of the last century, when after the long decades of persecution the Lord granted freedom to her and to our people”.
