The President of Israel, Shimon Peres, and the President of Palestine, Mahmud Abbas, have accepted Pope Francis' invitation to come to the Vatican. The offices of both leaders confirmed this to the international press agencies.
Yesterday sources from the office of the Israeli President announced that Shimon Peres welcomes “Pope Francis' invitation to the Vatican”, stating that the President “has supported and will continue to support all avenues to bring about peace”. Mahmud Abbas also accepted the invitation, according to his spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rdeneh, who also announced that the meeting will be held on 6 June.
