In the meantime on 12 January someone was able to take a truly historic photo showing a few women supporters, smiling and veiled, sitting in the stands in Jeddah during an A series football match. In fact last October a measure was announced allowing women to enter stadiums to attend sports events. In practice, structural modifications had to be introduced in stadiums to create areas reserved for women, ladies’ rooms and specific prayer facilities. The Jeddah stadium was thus able to welcome women supporters in its newly built “family section”. For the record, the January 12 match between Al Ahli and Al Batin, ended in a 5-1 win for the home team.
