· The Gospel of mercy at the heart of World Day 2016 ·
“Migrants and refugees challenge us. The response of the Gospel of mercy”. This is the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the next World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which will be celebrated on 17 January 2016. It is a choice to be understood within the context of the Year of Mercy – scheduled from 8 December 2015 to 20 November 2016 – and which, in the face of the drama of millions of men and women forced to abandon their homelands, is an appeal against falling into “humiliating indifference or a monotonous routine that prevents us from discovering what is new”, and against “destructive cynicism”, as written by the Pontiff in Misericordiae Vultus, the Bull of Indiction of the Jubilee of Mercy.
