The Pope's condolences
Cardinal Silvano Piovanelli, Archbishop emeritus of Florence, died on Saturday, 9 July, at 4:20 am, after a long illness. He was 92 years old. His funeral will be celebrated Tuesday afternoon, 12 July, at 3 pm, in the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Upon learning the news, Pope Francis sent to the Archbishop of Florence, Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, a telegram in which he recalled “with affection” his dear brother in the episcopate “who served the Gospel with joy and wisdom and he loved the Church with tenacity”.
