Pope receives his WYD backpack

Benedict XVI is now ready for the World Youth Day in Madrid, as he now owns a wyd [jmj — Spanish] hat and fan. On 14 February, Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela, Archbishop of Madrid, presented him with the traditional backpack, which all participants will receive. The Spanish Cardinal also briefed the Pope on the preparations for the August event. The red and yellow backpack in the colours of the hosting country, is filled with a rosary, pilgrim’s book, guide book, Youcat — the youth catechism in which the Pope wrote the preface — and public transportation pass.
