The Pope establishes a council and secretariat for the economy
With Pope Francis' Motu Proprio Fidelis dispensator et prudens, dated 24 February 2014, he established a new structure which will coordinate the economic and administrative affairs of the Holy See and Vatican City State. It will be called the Secretariat for the Economy and the Prefect will be the Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell. The establishment of the secretariat follows the recommendations of the Commission for Reference on the Organization of the Economic-Administrative Structure of the Holy See at the end of the rigorous review which began since its establishment with the Pope's chirograph on 18 July 2013.
