On the paths of the new evangelization

· Message from Cardinal Ouellet for Hispanic-American Day ·

“America, an Open Door to Mission”, is the theme of the upcoming Hispanic American Day which will be celebrated on Sunday, 3 March. The origins of this annual event date back to 1959 and its fundamental goal is to keep alive the ties of solidarity, communion and collaboration in the evangelizing mission which bind Spain and America. This year the celebration acquires special significance because it is taking place in the middle of the Year of Faith proclaimed by the Holy Father.

Nor does Cardinal Marc Ouellet, Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America,  fail to emphasize this significance in his message, published for the occasion.  In this regard “the Year of Faith”, the Cardinal wrote, “will be a good opportunity to intensify the witness to love. The Pauline cry Caritas urget nos, [love impels us], taken up and presented anew by Benedict XVI,  rings out as an appeal to missionary commitment”.
