Numbers on women in the world

Of about one billion and 300 million people living in extreme poverty around the world, 910 million are women. In other words,7 out of 10. This has been revealed by the Spanish NGO Ayuda en Acción that, since 1981, is dedicated to international cooperation to try to combat poverty through self-sustainable development programmes and awareness campaigns among the most vulnerable. Thus women who live in the poorest countries of the world, despite producing 70 percent of foodstuffs, do not possess even 2 percent of arable land. To complete the picture, is poor access to education and the scourge of early marriages and pregnancies (according to the NGO, there are more than 60 million forced child brides). Meanwhile, every minute a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth due to avoidable complications. At the same time, the EU agency for Fundamental Rights has published an investigation which revealed that the countries where most violence against women is recorded are Scandinavians ones. Italy is located in eighteenth place, penultimate before Poland. It is striking that heading the table are precisely the countries where women are most present in politics and in the world of business, such as Denmark, Finland and Sweden.
