Magdalene in the Vatican

There is also a splendid Mary Magdalene in terracotta in the crib created inthe 16th-century Bolognese style by Donato Mazzotta and exhibited in the San Damaso courtyard at the Vatican. This extra figure, not usually present in the scene of the Nativity, was inserted, asthe artist explained to L’Osservatore Romano, “to represent and relaunch the role of women”.
