La mia vita Autobiografia (1927-1977)

· The essay ·

“The present”, Joseph Ratzinger has written in La mia vita. Autobiografia (1927-1977) [my life: an autobiography] – is not a specific date but the now of a life that may be long or short. For me what began with the imposition of hands during my episcopal consecration in Munich Cathedral is the now of my life”. We are speaking of the final pages of the intellectual autobiography that the then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published in 1977, recounting 50 years of his life, from his birth to his episcopal consecration. In reviewing his development in the inseparable dimensions of son, brother, student, friend, priest and theologian, Ratzinger’s pages – steeped in the discretion and sensitivity that we have learned to recognize, especially during the years of his pontificate – tell of the person, describing a history. It is the history of a man and of his Church. “I felt the joy of being able to say something of my own, something new and at the same time something fully incorporated in the faith of the Church”, wrote the Cardinal – who lived it as Pope (@GiuliGaleotti)
