We cannot continue to tolerate financial markets which govern the destiny of peoples rather than serving their needs. And one of the most nefarious effects of this is the scandal of the speculation on food prices. The Pope said this during his meeting with the participants of a conference organized by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, who he received on Monday morning, 16 June, in the Clementine Hall.
“It is urgent”, the Pope said, “that governments throughout the world commit themselves to developing an international framework capable of promoting a market of high impact investments, and thus to combating an economy which excludes and discards.”
