From the past to the future beside the migrant population

· Cardinal Vegliò commemorates the 60th anniversary of Pius XII's 'Exsul Familia' ·

“The importance of the Constitution Exsul Familia 60 years after its promulgation” is the topic of the discourse that Cardinal Antonio Maria Vegliò, Presidente of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples gave on the afternoon of 29 November, in the Newman Hall of the Pontifical Urban University in Rome for the inauguration of the academic year of the Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI).

“Migration is a sign of the times”, the Cardinal explained, “and it is such because it has a profound effect on our societies. Because of its importance and its amplitude which are constantly and exponentially increasing, emigration is interconnected with many aspects of our globalized world that range from economic and political factors to religious, cultural and social aspects. In this context, the Church continues to seek new and more appropriate models for the pastoral care of migrants. Without forgetting that the societies into which the integration of immigrants is planned are constantly continuing to be redefined”.
