for peace

· Scholas Occurrentes launches initiative in the presence of the Pope ·

Pope Francis announced that on 29 May another “Match for Peace” will be played at Rome's Olympic Stadium, following the one on 1 September 2014. It is an initiative that demonstrates how “making peace” in sports and art is possible, Pope Francis explained on Wednesday evening, 3 February, in the Casina Pio IV in the Vatican, at a meeting organized by the pontifical foundation Scholas Occurrentes, which works with disadvantaged youth in poor countries.

Greeting those present, the Pontiff emphasized the importance of football and of sports in general, stating that these activities can educate and promote the culture of encounter. The value of education, he explained, should be placed in the context of personal harmony and therefore the development of the whole person. It is about making space for young people's creative abilities in order to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue to build a more inclusive world.
