A few months after the earthquake, the NGO Plan Internacional issued a warning of the risk of an increase in the traffic of under-aged brides: in Nepal two out five girls marry before the age of eighteen. In a press release the NGO further declares that the earthquake has damaged the already fragile water supply and sanitation systems and that with the arrival of the monsoons the risk of disease has increased. To protect these minors, the NGO is also involved in the construction of temporary schools to enable them to go back to school as soon as possible: the aim being to help them resume their education and offer them a safe environment to prevent terrible risks, such as trafficking.
