The wish for total transparency in the financial operations of the Institute for the Works of Religion (ior), frequently expressed by the Holy See Authorities, is well known. This requires the implementation of all procedures aimed at preventing illegal transactions and money-laundering. For this reason the authorities of the IOR have been doing their utmost through the necessary contacts and meetings, both with the Bank of Italy and with the competent international entities – the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (oecd) and the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (fatf or gafi), for the inclusion of the Holy See in the so-called “White List”.
The Holy See therefore expresses perplexity and surprise at the initiative taken by the Roman Procura, given that the necessary data are already available at the office of the Bank of Italy, and similar operations are currently taking place with other Italian banks.
As for the sums mentioned it should be taken into account that these are monetary transfers to the IOR from non-Italian banks.
The Holy See therefore wishes to express its utmost trust in the President and in the Director General of the IOR.
