The United Nations Joint Human Rights Office has reported a series of civilian atrocities in North Kivu, one of the 11 provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In a piece by the agency AFP the UN announced that over the past five months rebel groups active in the area arbitrarily executed 264 civilians, including 83 children. Many of the victims were hacked to death with machetes while others were burnt alive in their homes. Regarding the situation, the UN warned that the situation is deteriorating day by day
